Hunted NE of camp from 4:30-8 A.M.
in the sparsely brush covered hillsides,
saw very few birds and shot none.
Spent a large part of the time pursuing 2
horned Oakes.
At camp, shot a White-Breasted Nuthatch
from the big Blue Oak by camp and
shot an Anna Hummingbird from a
cottonwood.
From 10-12 A.M., hunted down the creek
in the cottonwoods. Shot 1 Calif. Jay and 1
Say Phoebe in the cottonwoods. Also saw
Brown Towhee, Sparrow Hawk, Meadowlark,
Dove, Quail, Bullock Oriole, Killdeer
and Buzzard. Caught a lizard in the dry
creek bed. At camp, shot a Brown Towhee
in the small Blue Oaks and 1 Plain
Titmouse from the large Blue Oak over our
camp.
In the evening, set 70 Mousum special
mousetraps in a line running up a
ridge in the sparse growth of Eriogonum,
Ephedra, short grass, with scattered
juniperus. Traps set 15-20 steps apart on
dry, powdery adobe soil.
