Palmer 1936 Itinerary June 23 cont'd. Zuni, NNE New Idria (cont'd.) Picked up part of the skull of a Grizzly Bear near an old cabin. In the afternoon at camp, shot a Say Phoebe from the lower branches of the large Blue Oak under which we are camped. In the evening hunted up the canyon by the sandstone cliffs. Shot several times at bats but got none. Saw at least 12 Barn Owls and heard one Horned Owl. June 24 Hunted this A.M. from 4:30-8:30 around the cliffs N of camp. Then I shot 2 Canyon Wrens and heard several others. Also saw these: Barn Owls, White-throated Swifts, Cliff Swallows, Rock Wrens, Ash-throated Flycatchers and Mourning Doves. In the chaparral across the canyon, saw Sparrow Hawk, Shrike and Calif. Thrasher. At camp, shot a Plain Titmouse in the Blue Oak In the afternoon, hunted along the base of the hills north of me but got no birds. Saw only Doves, Quail, Lark Sparrows and 1 Buzzard.
