Palmer 1936 January 22 cont'd. January 1 mi. SE summit San Benito Mtn. 27. Western Gnatcatcher - abundant everywhere in chaparral or conifers. Probably the commonest bird. 28. Lutescent Warbler - moderately common in the chaparral and along the streams. 29. Black-throated Gray Warbler - Common in the conifers. 30. Linnet - A few seen in the conifers. 31. Green-backed Goldfinch - 4-5! seen perched in topmost branches of conifers generally near the stream. 32. Spotted Towhee - Common in the chaparral, mixed chaparral + conifer and in the smaller conifers. 33. Brown Towhee - 1 seen near camp at the end of our stay. It had apparently just come into that area as we had not seen it before. 34. Bell's Sparrow - Fairly common in the dense chaparral of the N. facing slope. 35. Point Pinion Junco - In flocks for the most part, 10-15 in number usually in heaviest stands of conifer or very brushy gulches with streams.
