Jan 22 A list of birds as seen in this
vicinity during the last 2 weeks is
as follows.
1. Buzzard - 3 or 4 seen flying over
2. Cooper Hawk - Rarely seen,
flying over the chaparral.
3. Swainson Hawk - One seen flying
down canyon pursued by a Sparrow
Hawk.
4 Golden Eagle - About 10 seen.
commonly around the high, rocky
ridges.
5. Sparrow Hawk - One family of
4 or 5 near camp in a dead
stub of an incense cedar
6. Mourning Dove - Fairly common
in all situations.
7. Horned Owl - One heard and
possibly one seen at dusk in the
conifers. (Identification uncertain)
8. Poorwill - 3 or 4 collected usually
in the dusty road at dusk or
openings in the chaparral/conifers.
Heard nearly every evening.
9. White Throated Swift - Rocky
ridges & higher peaks.
