Palmer 1936 June 19 Hineaway 1 and SE summit San Benito Mtn. (contd) contd, stuck off into the brush. Saw a Raven which I chased after but it stayed out of gunshot. About dark, called up at Coorwill but could not get a shot. Saw 3 bats (Myotis). On the way back to camp, shot at a large Owl but did not get it. While eating supper heard a Horned Owl hoot once. June 20 This A.M. drove with Johnson up the creek, past Santa Rita Pk. and around to The Gem mine. This locality we called: 1 and 5 Santa Rita Pk., 4500 ft, San Benito Co. Calif. Stopped at the mine where there is a small flat with 12 or 15 large yellow pines and Incense Cedars. The edge of the flat slopes up into the hillsides and is covered by dense brush - scrub oak and Ceanothus with small Coulta and Bigger pines Ceanothus There I shot 2 Spotted Towhees and a Wren-fit. Also shot at Martins which were flying about a dead pine; did not get any, however. Also saw Flickers, Western Gnatcatcher, Western Bluebird, Bewick Wren. Johnson brought in a Plain Titmouse and a young Black-chinned Sparrow. The creek flowing thru the flat is slow, and full of algae. There I caught 3 Rana boylii and saw many others. Caught a Sceloporus on a log. Stayed here from about 11 A.M. - 3 P.M. Set a bunch of gopher traps with
