Palmer 1936 June 10 (miss SE summit San Benito Mtn. (cont'd) and shot 2 Plain Titmouses and a Hairy Woodpecker. Heard one White- breasted Nuthatch. Birds were scarce in the conifers. Hunted back into the canyon where I was this A.M. Not birds seen here this evening were California Jay and Red-shafted Flicker. June 11 Nothing in 3 mole traps this A.M. New camp in brush and scrubby conifers, shot 2 Plain Titmouses, 1 Linnet (?), 1 Western Gnatcatcher and saw the usual other birds. Shot one chipmunk as it was climbing up the trunk of a small Pinyon Pine. It was about 2 ft. above the ground when I shot it. In the evening hunted up the road (E) along the creek. Shot 1 Quail then in the brush saw Spotted Towhees, Western Gnatcatchers, Plain Titmouses, mourning Doves, Calif. Jay and 1 White-breasted Nuthatch. Birds were rather scarce. Found a Sceloporus in my sleeping bag when I went to bed. June 12 In the A.M. (5-7:30) hunted up the till just back of camp (E) in mixed conifers and chaparral. Shot 1 Junco
