1mi SE summit San Benito Mtn. (cont'd)
Junco contd, Bewick Whene, Plain Titmouse, Black-
Throated Gray Warbler, Bush Tits, Mourning
Dove. In the few conifers saw several
Wood Pewees. Two golden Eagles circled
high overhead. Also heard Whe-wits but
didn't see any. Returned to camp where
I shot a Junco from the lower branch of
a Digger Pine.
June 10. This morning hunted from 5:30-7:30 up the
same small canyon to the S of camp where
I hunted yesterday. Shot a Bushtit in the
chaparral. It had insects in its bill and
was apparently feeding young but I couldn't
locate the nest or young. Shot a spotted Towhee
and an olive-sided Flycatcher
and took a long shot at a golden Eagle but
didn't get it. Saw no new birds and no
more Black-chinned Sparrows. Shot a
Eutamias merriami from the top of a
large Boulder in the creek bed.
About 11 A.M. went up the road (SE) and set
3 mole traps in fresh surface ridges.
Saw 2 Hairy Woodpeckers in a large
Digger Pine and a Chipmunk in the
brush but had no gun.
About 4:30 P.M. went out from camp
and hunted over the N slope in conifers
