Palmer 1936 Itinerary June 7 Butter Ranch, San Benito Co. (Cont'd.) Contd. 17 California Woodpecker - Common in Live Oak and Valley Oak associations. A few seen in Blue Oak-Digger Pine assoc- ciation. 18-Flicker-Not often seen-probably only 5 or 6 during our stay. All were Blue- Oak, Digger Pine association. 19 Western Kingbird - Fairly common but rather widely distributed around the ranch. Usually around buildings as perched on fences in the valley bottom. 20. Ash-throated Flycatches-Common in The Blue-Oak-Digger-Pine association and around the barns. One nesting on rafters in a shed. 21. Say Phoebe - No certain of this identification but possibly one seen on a fence near the barns. 22. Black Phoebe - Common around the buildings. Often perched on fences in the valley bottom. A few seen along the creek. 23. Western Wood Pewee- Not common in the Live Oaks and Blue Oak-Digger Pine associations. 24. Violet Green Swallow-Hock? seen several times catching insects on a small scale
