Butt's Ranch, 3000 ft., San Benito Co. (cont'd).
backed Goldfinches, Brewer Blackbirds,
Western Bluebird, Black Phoebe, Bullock
Oriole, Ash-throated Flycatcher. Heard
Calif Thrasher, Whentit, Black-headed
Grosbeak.
In the evening set 3 mole traps on
surface ridges in sandy silt soil of
the creek bottom. Still cold and windy
with heavy black clouds overhead. Very
few birds out
May28 Cold drizzly rain this A.M. 3 Mole
traps caught nothing. Hunted birds in
the rain for about 1 1/2 hrs. Saw 1 Black-
headed Grosbeak, 2 Ash-throated Flycatcher,
1 Nuttall Woodpecker, 1 Western Wood Pewee,
several Brewer Blackbirds, Western Blue-
birds, Linnet and Green-backed Gold-
finches. Didn't shoot anything. Spent
the day
