Itinerary
W. side El Cerrito (Knoll), 25 ft., Alameda Co., Calif.
Jan. 22 Left Berkeley 8:30 A.M. with E. T. Hoover
and D. T. Johnson and drove to El
Cerrito (Knoll) and around the west
side to a railroad siding of Noble.
Hunt birds til 11 A.M. Shot 3
Zonotrichia leucophrys in Baccharis and
tall grass, 1 Junco oreganus in Baccharis
on a grassy hillside, 1 Calypte anna from
telephone wires near a grove of Eucalyp-
tus and 1 Carpodacus mexicanus from
a flock perched in a large Monterey
Cypress.
Saw a Kingfisher, 1 Sharp-shinned
Hawk; and several Song Sparrows
in the Salicornia marsh. Also saw
many Audubon Warblers in the Eucalyp-
tus groves. There was quite a flock
of ducks on the bay but they were too
far out to identify.
Most of the area covered in hunting
was east of the railroad tracks. This
area is rather level, with scattered
clumps of eucalyptus trees. Between
the trees, the ground is covered by
new green grass and low annuals.
