Palmer 1935 Itinerary Oct. 17 contd. Angel Island, S.F. Bay, Calif. (cont'd.) covered with chaparral - Coyote brush in the more open fields and mixed Poison Oak, Cuylos, wild blackberry, Christmas berry and Brake ferns with a few Elder trees (Sambucus glauca). In a few seepage spots there are willows. Took a pencil census of birds from 11:05 - 11:45. Weather clear and warm. Recorded: Blue Jay 4, Spotted Towhee 4, Bush Tit 4, Flicker 2, Cedar Waxwing 5, Cooper Hawk 1, Green-backed Goldfinch 17, Audubon Warbler 8, White Crowned Sparrow 6, Sng Sparrow 6, Black Phoebe 1, English Sparrow 2, Unknown Small Flycatchers 2. Found just one mole working about 150 yds. N of Hospital on E side of road. Saw Deer Tracks in mud on the hillside. Saw 2 Microtus in grass under a bush. Returned to Hospital at 11:45 and ate lunch. I asked Sgt. Golar about some of the small mammals. He says there are no wild rabbits on the island altho may be a few escaped domestic rabbits. He reports ground squirrels from the
