Emer. & Crescent City (contd.)
small clear space by the roadside at the edge of the Redwood. Here we stopped & waited for the thunder shower to let up & finally pitched camp about 4 P.M. It rained practically all the time after leaving Smith River (town) so everything is wet.
About 6 P.M. set 50 gov. size mouse traps. About 25 of these were in a sedgey meadow about 75 x 150 ft. next to camp. Traps set on damp ground beneath sedges 1-2 1/2 ft. tall & by several large logs in the bog.
About 25 traps were set along the edge of the road in undergrowth of Salal, Holodiscus discolor, Rhododendron occidentale, Rhus diversiloba, Rubus vitifolius, Rubus parviflor, Rubus spectabilis (?), Brake fern, Sword fern (Polystichum lonchitis) and Coyless under Douglas Fir, Tan Oak and a few Redwoods.
