Itinerary
Hole in the Ground, 1200 ft. cont'd.
July 21.
cont'd. Brush Rabbit run from the meadow into
the brush. Heard a Chickaree and following
it up found 2 chasing each other around
in the tops of Tan Oak and Douglas Fir.
Shot both Chickarees. Returned to camp.
In the chaparral, on the way up, heard
several Spotted Towhees, Wrentits and
Chickadees. Saw Hermit Thrush, and Hermit
Warbler and Steller Jay.
Johnson went down & Winter Spring this
afternoon and returned with a Spotted Towhee.
In the evening went down to Hole in
the Ground. Traps had caught 1 jnr. spotted
Towhee during the day. Trapping has been
poor here and we have decided to move
tomorrow, so look in all traps. We stayed
til dark, hoping to get some bat shooting
but it started to rain rather steadily
but lightly and the few bats seen were
traveling low and fast. Several Nighthawks
were flying around the "Hole" and apparently
started flying earlier than the bats and paid
less attention to the rain. Returned to camp
about 9 P.M.
