July 14
child.
In the evening set a line of 28 mouse
traps and 1 rat trap up the E.F.K. Illinois R.
Traps set mostly on sandy bars or by
mossy banks at the edge of the stream
under Alnus, Acer macrophyllum, A. circinat-
um, yew, Rhododendron occidentale, Cornus
nutallii, Amelanchier alnifolia, Madrone
and willows. Caught a small Tamiasciurus
ordinoides at the edge of the stream on
a log. When pursued, it headed for the water.
Shot bats in the evening. Alto cloudy
and starting to rain, bats started to
fly about the same time as on previous
nights here. (7:30 P.M.) It is darker tonight and
it is possible that bats fly more according
to the time than light intensity. Shot 1
Eptesicus fuscus. About 8:15 rain got
increased
and bats ceased flying.

nothing. 4 mole traps caught nothing.
