July 12 (cont'd.) Cedar. The rest of the line (about 20 kps)
run up a N facing hillside in large Douglas Firs with a few Yellow Pine, Sugar
Pine and Tan Oak under bushes of Oregon
Grape, Huckleberries, [illegible] and Mountain
Dogwood on mossy ground surface;
Shot a Hermit Thrush as it was running
along a large Yellow Pine log in mixed Madron,
Harry Oak, and Douglas Fir (small). Here
also heard a Examinas. Caught a mole in the garden.
About 7:30 P.M., bats started to fly. Shot a
Lasionycteris noctivagans and a Myotis
near the edge of the clearing.
July 13 In 28 prr. size mouse traps and [illegible] traps
in the heavy Douglas Fir forest, caught
3 Peromyscus maniculatus. Shot a Examinas
townsendii there. In 50 traps in Microtus
runways in grass and Melilotus around the
garden, caught 1 Microtus californicus.
5 mole sets caught nothing.
Saw a number of deer tracks in the
road. Saw Lazuli Bunting, Sooty Grouse
(2 young), Western Tanager, Steller Jay, and
Linnet. Heard Hermit Thrush, Black-headed
Grosbeak, and Belted Kingfisher.
Today we had a visit from Mr. A.L. [illegible]
Shot Common Violets and Thirsty [illegible]
in mixed things killing Oaks at camp.
