July 9
July 10 Broke camp at Poker Flat about 4:30 P.M.&
The way out shot a Junco in a clump of Douglas
Fir.Then drove back to The Happy Camps to Redwood
Highway road and then stopped and shot at
a Callospermophilus but failed to get it.Continued on
The main road over the summit of the
Siskiyou Mts.At a point 1 mi.W Little Grayback,
5400 ft,Siskiyou Mts,Del Norte Co,Calif.,shot a ?
Callospermophilus.Continued on into Oregon to
Jakilma and thence 5 in The Illinois River
Valley to The above locality where we camped
on the property of Mr.Aller about 6 P.M.
July 11 Camp is in a flat about 100 yds.across
running up the N side of Dunn Creek
just above where it joins The East Fork of
The Illinois R.The Oregon line is a short
way north of camp,cutting across the lower
end of The flat.Mr.Aller has cleared the flat
for about 300 yds.with the exception of a small
group of Garry Oak and Kellogg Oak in which we
are camped.About half of this open area is
planted to vegetable garden.The rest is covered
by dry grass.The hills to the NE of camp
slope up rather gradually and are covered
by Garry Oak,Kellogg Oak,Madrones,Douglas
