Itinerary
July 4 Baker Flat, 5000 ft., (contd.)
cont'd. Took in line of 25 mouse traps and 2 rat
traps from the conifers.
In the afternoon made 6 gopher sets (8
traps) at the edge of the meadow in rather
dry ground. Caught 1 Thomomys monticola
in 1st trap set. Made 3 sets with mole
traps in surface ridges. Added 28 traps to
line in meadow so now have 53 gov. size
mouse traps in this line. Extended it
down the main stream flowing out of
the meadow. The canyon thru which it
flows is narrow - about 10-20 ft. wide
at the bottom with willows on either side
@ 2-5 ft. high. Under the willows are sedges
and small aquatics and some grass.
Soil here is gravelly.
July 5 In 53 gov.-size mouse traps in the meadow
and down the streams flowing out of it,
cought 1 Zapus pacificus, 1 Sorex palustris,
2 Microtus mordax and 12 Peromyscus
maniculatus. In 5 gopher sets, caught
2 Thomomys monticola. Left 3 gopher sets
out. Mole traps = 0.
In the evening found 1 Thomomys
monticola in 3 sets. Reset this trap. Added
mouse
12 traps to the line in the meadow. These
