Itinerary
July 2 Pakeet flat, 5000 ft. (cont'd.)
cont'd. While setting traps in the meadow, I saw
a Zapus about 8 P.M.
July 3 In 25 grr. size mouse traps in the meadow
cached 5 Peromyscus maniculatus and
2 Microtius mordax. In 28 grr.-size mouse
traps by logs in thick forest, caught 3
Peromyscus maniculatus and 3 Clethriono-
mys mazama. Took in 3 mouse traps in
this line and added 2 rat traps, setting
most of the line which still runs thus.
The same association as before. In the 1
mole trap caught 1 Scapanus latimanus.
Gophers set undisturbed.
About 10 P.M. Heard a woodpecker pounding
on a dead tree by camp. Shot it and it
turned out to be a & Picoides arctina.
In the evening reset a line in the wet
meadow so it runs N from about camp
to the main stream that drains the
meadow. Traps set especially for Zapus
in tall sedges, buttercups, shooting stars
generally under & near small willows
July 4 In 25 mouse traps and 2 rat traps by
logs in coniferous forest caught 2 Clethriono-
mys mazama and 3 Peromyscus maniculatus.
Caught 1 gopher in 1 set.
