June 27 Klamath R., 1000 ft., mouth of Clear Creek (cont'd.)
cont'd. were much like at camp so we set no traps
Returned to camp.
Set no traps This P.M. since we intend to
move tomorrow, 4 small traps still set.
The Klamath Rim here is about 200 ft. wide
and quite muddy from placer mining. It's
flows thru a rather steep walled canyon,
almost a gorge. Along the banks, wherever
plants can gain a foothold are willow, abder,
and madrone with a rather heavy undergrowth
of blackberry vines, grass and other low
plants. The steep canyon sides are covered
by a dense growth of Douglas Fir, Madrone,
and Tarry Oak. Along the small creek (as
at Douglas Creek) there is a very thick cover of
California Bay (Umbellularia californica).
Poker Flat, 5000 ft., 12 mi. NW Happy Camp, Siskiyou
Co., Calif.
June 28 Broke camp at mouth of Clear Creek about 12:30
and drove to Happy Camp where we bought
provisions, gasoline and fixed a fire. About 4 P.M.
left there and drove up Indian Creek. At a
place where the road crosses a small
tributary of Indian Creek, we stopped and I
collected 3 Triterus Torosus. This place, tho
not on Indian Creek was designated as: Indian
