surroundings follows:
Camp is on the S side of the Klamath River
about a mile below the bridge where the
highway crosses the river. The canyon
wall here rises steeply from the river.
Along the river there is a fairly thick growth
of Alder, Willow, Mountain Dogwood with a thick
growth of underbrush - Blackberry vines, amelanchi
ers, and other low bushes. Above the river, the
rather rocky canyon wall rises abruptly. It is
covered with a thick growth of Madrone, Douglas Fir,
Hardy Oak, and Canyon Live Oak (Quercus chrysophyl
l e p i c), in some places with thick undergrowth
largely Mountain Dogwood and Ferns (Woodwardia).
The main part of the valley is on the N side of
the river. Most of the valley is cultivated with
fields of alfalfa, grain or pasture. The uncult-
ivated part is largely covered with scrubby Hardy
Oak, small Yellow Pine and small Douglas Fir
with a scattering of large Yellow Pines.

to Clear Creek where we left the river and drove up
