June 19 cont'd.
Seiad Valley, 1400 ft. Siskiyou Co., Calif. (cont'd.)
Looked around for place to set mole traps but found no good fresh workings. Set 1 steel trap with shiny tin on the pan for coon and set 1 rat trap by a woodrat nest in the alders and willows by camp.
June 20 Caught 1 Neotoma fuscipes in a rat trap set by a nest near camp. Caught nothing in the coontrap.
Packed specimens to send to Berkeley.
In the afternoon, went across the river with Johnson to Seiad where we made 9 sets for gophers in an alfalfa field.
Re-set the coon trap on an island in the river where there were lots of coon tracks on a mud-bar and as number of muscels(?) had been opened.
June 21 In 9 gopher sets at Seiad (N side of Klamath R.) in an alfalfa field caught 7 Thomomys bottae. Caught nothing in coon trap.
In the afternoon drove 1 mi. down the river from camp to 2 small ponds. Here shot a Redwing Blackbird in a willow. Saw several more in tules but they were out of range. Saw several Eastern Bullfrogs and great numbers of small toads, 1/2 - 3/4 in. long.
