Palmer 1935 Itinerary Seiad Valley, 1400 ft., Siskiyou Co., Caly. June 18 cont'd. Broke camp at Donomore Meadow at 11 A.M. and drove down via Bear Grounds, Cinnabar and Beaver Creek to the Klamath River and then down the Klamath via Oak Knoll, Horse creek, and Lamburg to Seiad where we camped on the S side of the Klamath River about 5 P.M. Saw several Black-capped Chickadees in the Alders by the river. Also saw Robin, Black-headed Grosbeak, Steller Jay, Long- tailed Chat. As we were eating supper, a Sharp-shinned Hawk flew heavily over camp carrying a young Steller Jay in its claws and followed by a screaming mob of Jays. June 19 This morning saw Coon and Woodrat tracks in the sand along the river. A skunk had walked thru camp and a mole had raised a ridge under the tent during the night. Hunted birds. Shot a Black-capped Chickadee from a clump of Mountain Dogwood. Saw Lazuli Bunting, Robin, Black-headed Grosbeak, Steller Jay, Yellow Warbler, Long-tailed Chat, and Spotted Sandpiper. In the evening shot a Downy Woodpecker from a Sycamore Oak in camp.
