Palmer 1935 Itinerary June 18 Donomne Meadow, 5800 ft., Siskiyou Co., Calif. (Contd.) contd. trap. Took in all traps and prepared to leave. Donomne Meadow occupies an area of about 50 acres. It is somewhat rolling and is covered with lush grass and sedges, with nearly pure growth of tall sedges along the streams and grass and low annuals (Ranunculus sp., Peppergrass and Yellow Verbena). Along the stream at the lower end of the meadow are dwarf Salix and Alnus tenuifolia. The meadow is surrounded by a heavy coniferous forest with tongues of grass following up streams or seepages. The conifers are largely Red Fir and White Fir with some Douglas Fir and Pinus monticola with Tsuga mertensiana at the lower edge of the steepest N slopes. From the meadow, the hills slope up rather gradually on all sides. A conspicuous feature of the forest is the lack of undergrowth but with a ground cover of low grass and annuals like the upper edge of the meadow. On the dry E facing slope between the meadow & the forest are numerous low bushes of Amelanchier alnifolia and some Actostaphylos patula with areas between covered by grass and low flowering plants - Blue Larkspur, Calochortus cannellus etc. Camp is at the edge of the meadow at its SE corner.
