June 14 Donomore Meadow, 5800ft., 15 mi. W Hill (cont'd.)
contd. Found mole surface runways on N slope
at edge of meadow under Hemlock. Heard
Sciurus douglasii several times and saw one
cutting cones from Pinus monticola. Saw
Eutamias townsendii at the edge of the conifers.
June 15. Heavy frost last night. In 41 traps in
the meadows caught 1 Microtus mordax?, 1
Peromyscus maniculatus. In 30 traps by logs in
conifers caught 2 Clethrionomys magama. 7 rat
traps for flying squirrels = 0. Set 1 mole trap in
surface runway under Hemlocks on N slope at
edge of meadow.
Saw the following birds: Audubon Warbler,
Junco, Cassin Purple Finch, Robin and Red-breasted
Muthatch. Heard Mountain Quail and Warbling Vireo?
In the evening reset 10 of 30 gov.-size mouse
traps in the conifers. Found 1 Clethrionomys
magama in this line. Also reset 10 of 4 traps
in the meadow. These were set in a line running
up over a small hill N of the old line in the
meadow. Caught 1 Scapanus latimanus
in the mole trap and reset the trap in
a new set of runways under Red Fir near
the cabin.
June 16 Rained off and on last night. Cold this A.M.
