Itinerary.
Donomore Meadow, 5800 ft., 15 mi. w Kilt. (contd.)
June 13 contd. Several times heard Plicated Woodpecker,
Hermit Thrush, Mt Quail.
In the evening set out 30 gor.-size mouse
traps and 6 rat traps. The mousetraps were
set by large logs in the conifers (Pinus monticola,
Abies concolor, Abies magnifica, Pseudotsuga
taxifolia). Set the 6 rat traps at the bases
of large dead trees (standing) for flying squirrels.
Set 4 sets of traps for gophers in the meadow.
June 14. In 25 gor.-size mousetraps in alders along
a small stream, caught 1 Peromyscus manicul
tatus. In 30 gor.-size mouse traps by logs in
conifers caught 1 Clethrionomys magama. In
7 gopher sets caught 2 Thomomys monticola.
New birds today: Chipping Sparrow, Western
Tanager, Canada Jay (Coll. by Johnson)
In the evening found 1 Eutamias amoenus
in 25 gor.-size mouse traps in alders along a
small stream. Took these traps up. Found 1
Clethrionomys magama in 30 traps by logs in
the conifers. Set 41 gor.-size mouse traps in
the meadow along Donomore Creek. About 7/8 of
these were set in tall grass and other small
plants (Buttercups, Violets, Pepper-grass etc) out in
the open. The rest were set under stunted Salix
and Alnus tenuifolia with the same groundcover.
