June 6 contd. about 3 P.M. and set up camp on the other side of the meadow.
Set 35 gopher size mouse traps in the evening. 20 of these had bacon bait and 15 had bacon grease bait. All were set on grassy banks of small streams in the alders. Also have 1 steel trap, 3 mole traps and 1 gopher set out.
June 7 In 35 gopher size mouse traps caught: 2 Microtus californicus (?) and 1 Peromyscus maniculatus. Found the remains of a mole under a small fir tree
At noon went around line and found 1 young Microtus in the 35 mouse traps along stream in alders. Shot a junco near camp.
In evening set another mole trap on a rather dry hillside. Put out 30 mouse traps with oat bait in a line running up a ridge about 1/4 mi. SW camp. Traps were set around old logs and stumps in conifers. Saw a Fairy Woodpecker and found Aplodontia burrows in the alders. The latter were located by gnawed places on alder branches.
