Palmer 1935 Itinerary June 4 cont'd. Hd. Doggett Cr., 5800 ft., Siskiyou Mts. Johnson reports mole workings near the creek. Made 2 mole sets, 1 in surface runway with moletrap and 1 in deep burrows with Macabee gopher traps. Looked around a good part of the meadow's frost floor near camp for mole workings. June 5 Caught 1 Scapanus latimanus in 3 sets, 3 Thomomys monticola in 4 sets. Reset 2 mole traps in better runways. In afternoon made 1 set for Thomomys and when examined 1 hr. later the trap held 1 Thomomys monticola. A new bird seen today is the Warbling Vio. In the evening set 20 traps with bacon bait along a small stream with grassy banks in Alders. June 6 Caught 3 Peromyscus maniculatus and 1 Juno Microtus in 20 traps with bacon bait. Hunted from 9-11 A.M. in conifers. Shot 2 Eutamias amoenus in Red Cherry and Manzanita, 1 Eutamias Townsendii about 20 ft. up in a dead fir tree, and 1 Sciurus douglasii as it ran along a log.
