surrounded by Red cherry 8-12 ft. high.
In The evening set 1 steel trap near a
large burrow. Also made 4 sets for gophers
near camp in the meadow.
June 3 Caught 2 Thomomys monticola in 4 sets,
Nothing in the steel trap. Left 2 gopher sets
out. Shot a Eutamias amoenus. Saw
several Sciurus douglasii in the fir trees. Saw
5 deer: 2 old does and 3 yearlings. One doe
was followed by 2 which appeared to be twins.
Saw a Red-tailed Hawk flying over. In the
conifers saw several Western Tanagers.
In late afternoon spent several hours
hunting birds, most of the time stalking a
Hermit Thrush singing in the fir trees.
Shot 1 Eutamias amoenus in the brush and
1 Callospermophilus chrysodeirus in an open
flat surrounded by Red Cherry and Red Fir
White Fir. Saw a Paeupine in a small clump
of Chinguapin. Saw a gopher working and
set a trap. Caught 1 Thomomys monticola
in this set in about 45 minutes.
June 4 Nothing in 2 gopher sets or the steel set. Hunted
birds from 8-10 A.M. Heard Hermit Thrush again,
but couldn't get a shot. Shot 1 Eutamias
townsendii. Saw a Geohorotus.
