Palmer 1935 May 31 cont'd. Itinerary Klamath R., 2100 ft., 2 mi. S Hornbrook The uncultivated fields are largely grown up to foxtail grass, 4-6 inches high, which is already dry. On the S side of the Klamath R., the hills rise rather sharply, running up to Black Mt. which has some conifers starting at about the middle and running up to the top. To the W of camp, across the highway, there are hills which are largely covered with foxtail grass on their lower slopes but with Ceanothus cuneatus, Quercus garryana (scrubby), Juniperus occidentalis and a very few Pinus ponderosa in the gulches. A list of birds seen at this locality since May 24 is as follows: Turkey Vulture, Cooper Hawk, Calif. Quail, Killdeer, Gull (sp?), Mourning Dove, Horned Owl, Kingfisher, Downy Woodpecker, Lewis Woodpecker, Red Shafted Flicker, Ash-throated Flycatcher, Cliff Swallow, Barn Swallow, Tree Swallow, Bank Swallow, Calif. Jay, Crow, House Wren, Robin, Yellow Warbler, Yellow-throat, Long-tailed Chat, Redwing Blackbird, Brewer Blackbird, Meadowlark, Bullock Oriole, Lazuli Bunting, Linnet, Green-backed Goldfinch, Willow Goldfinch, Brown Towhee, Lark Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Black-capped Chickadee.
