Klamath River, 2100 ft., 2 mi. S Hornbrook
may 25 cont'd. a Bank Swallow near its nest hole in
a steep dirt bank of Cottonwood Creek.
May 26 Caught 1 Scapanus latimanus in 4 traps.
In 25 go size mouse traps caught 1
Peromyscus maniculatus and 1 Mus
musculus. Johnson brought in 2 Bank
Swallows. New birds today: Linnet,
Mourning Dove, Lark Sparrow, Barn
Swallow.
In afternoon drove N through Hornbrook
to Hilt with Johnson. W. of town along
the railroad tracks, we found gopher
workings common. Made 6 sets with 9 traps.
Saw surface workings of mole in a
damp ditch bank. Returned to camp -
Hilt, 2850 ft., Siskiyou Co., Calif.
May 27 Caught 3 Thomomys bottae in 6 sets.
Then drove up W fk. of Cottonwood Creek
which runs generally SW from Hilt up
into the mountains.
W fk. Cottonwood Cr., 4000 ft., 4 1/2 mi. SW Hilt,
Siskiyou Co., Calif. Hunted for about an
hour here in the late morning. Shot
1 Eutamias townsendii, 1 Junco. Heard one
other chipmunk and saw Douglas
