July 21 (cont.) drove via Campbell Creek Ranch up Smitho Creek past the Fish Hatchery to a point on Smitho Creek, 7100 ft., Lander Co., Nev.
In the evening set 65 gor.-sized mouse traps. 1/2 from camp up a slope covered with Snow-brush, Artemisia and Chrysophan-num from 1-3 ft tall. The line followed up the slope to a hill about 400 ft. higher than camp which was mainly rock slides and large rock outcrops with a few Juniper trees, Snow-brush, Wild Rose and Artemisia. In one rock slide I found a hay pile of a Cone and here set one #5 steel trap; also set another in the front of crevice in the rock where there was Woodchuck sign. The mouse trap line swung around thru the rocks and then up back down the slope. Here I picked up the skull of a Woodchuck - Marmota flaviventris.
July 22 Caught mammals of the following species:
and
24 Peromyscus maniculatus, 3 Perognathus parvus in 65 gor.-sized mouse traps, also 1 Ochotona princeps and 1 Sylvilagus nuttalli in two steel traps.
Set 50 gor.-sized mouse traps when I went 1 mile below camp with E.R. Hall in the evening. About 15 of these were set
