Palmer 1934
Traps and left them there. In the willows I shot a Junco and a Chickadee. Here I also observed White-crowned Sparrows, Rufous Hummingbird, Green-tailed Towhee, Steller Jay, and some small species of Wren. Farther up this canyon the stream had disappeared but there was still some grass. Now I shot a Vesper Sparrow and a Brewer Sparrow.
In the Artemisia and Mountain Mahogany I observed Piñon Jays and a flock of Horned Larks.
Set 50 traps in Microtus runways in boggy ground south of camp. Here I observed a Meadowlark and a small flock of Red-winged Blackbirds. In the boggy ground I caught one Bufo.
July 14. Caught mammals of the following species:
10 Microtus montanus taken in the 50 traps set in the bog south of camp and 3 Microtus montanus taken in the canyon west of camp.
Moved camp down Cottonwood Creek to 7400 ft. elevation. Camped in dry flat in the canyon bottom near a small stream lined with Quaking Aspens and Willows. The sides of the canyon were mainly broken rock covered with Piñons.
