July 12 Caught mammals of the following species:
24 Peromyscus maniculatus, 2 Perognathus
parvus, 1 Eutamias minimus. I also
shot a Sage Thrasher and observed
Brewer Sparrows, Mountain Bluebirds,
Green-tailed Towhees and one Rock-Wren.
Set 60 gov-sized mouse traps. 45 were
set across a low sandy hill with
Artemisia and then down to a small
canyon W of Camp. This place had a
small stream 1-1/2 ft. across and
was grassy with a rather dense growth
of Willows. Here I set 15 traps in
Microtus runways in the grass along
by the water. I also set 5 rat traps
in the rocks farther up the hill.
July 13 Caught mammals of the following species:
12 Peromyscus maniculatus, 2 Perognath-
us parvus, 1 Eutamias minimus. All
were caught in the Artemisia with the
exception of one Peromyscus which was
taken in a rat trap in a rock-outcrop.
Left the 15 traps set in Microtus run-
ways. At noon visited these traps
again and found one Calospermophilus
lateralis and one very small Microtus
montanus in the traps. I reset the
