Palmer 1935 Thomomys perpallidus 3 mi. N Drinkwater Spr., T. 17N. R. 4E, San Bernardino Co., Calif. Mar. 27 Caught 3 in 6 sets (10 traps). All gopher "workings" were found in what is appar- entely an old lake bed. Plant life on it is rather sparse with a very few large old Covillea bushes and a few low annuals, mostly Amsinckia sp. Mounds were quite large -- 12-24 in. across and 4-6 in. high. These were commonly directly over the main runway and followed a line at rather regular intervals. o o o o o There were many old mounds, some broken in and washed by water and it is possible that the gophers may have been "drowned out" by heavy rains this winter. Soil here is deep very fine, almost silty, brown, and quite moist only an inch or two below the surface
