Itinerary
Sugarloaf Peak, 1300 ft., 1 mi. E Stadium,
Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif.
Feb. 26 About 4 P.M. went up Strawberry Cañon
with D.K. Johnson nearly to the head of
the cañon to a peak known as "Sugarloaf"
which is part of the ridge separating
Strawberry Cañon from Claremont Canyon.
At an elevation of approx. 1300 ft., set
out 51 gov. size mouse traps. About
1/3 of these were set on bare, gravelly
ground beneath Artemisia bushes on
the south side of the peak; about 1/3 were
set in mixed Artemisia and Baccharis
slightly lower down the south side and
1/3 were set on the west side of the peak
in Microtus runways in the rather
short, green grass.
Feb. 27. The night was rather cloudy but
there was no rain. In the morning, a
cold wind was blowing from the SW.
Mammals of the following species
were taken in 51 gov.-size mouse traps:
Peromyscus maniculatus 2, P. truei 1,
Perognathus californicus 1, Microtus
californicus 4, Reithrodontomys megalotis
