Itinerary
1158 Columbia Ave, Ontario, San Bernardino Co Calif.
Dec 26 Two boys, one of them my cousin A. R. Mahurin,
(cont'd) brought in a ? Thomomys.
Left home (Ontario) at 4:30 P.M with G. L.
Palmes and E. H. Bailey and drove 5 8 mi.
and then in general SE direction to Norco.
From Norco drove about 2 mi. SE into the
hills to a point: 2 mi. SE Norco, approx. 700 ft,
Riverside Co., Calif. There camped in a
grassy canyon by a dry stream-bed.
The hills on either side were low rounded
with occasional outcrops of large rounded
granite boulders. On the hillsides were
rather thick growths of low shrubs: Artemisia,
Eriogonum and . The ground beneath
was commonly covered with grass and Erodium
but in many places was bare ground. In
the flat near camp were a few willows,
Cottonwoods and scattered plants of
Nicotianum tobacco.
Set 90 traps (gor-size mouse) after dark
by using flashlight. The line was run in
a big loop up one side of the canyon
then crossing over and up the other
side of the canyon. About 1/4 of the traps
were set in the rock outcrops and
the rest in the low chaparral.
