Palmer 1934 Itinerary 1158 Columbia Ave., Ontario, Saw Bernardino Co., Calif. Dec. 22 In P.M. set 3 gopher traps in a burrow with fresh mounds in a vacant lot across the street from my home. Dec. 23 Caught 1 & Thomomys b. pallescens in the gopher set made last night. In P.M. drove E on 5th St. about 1 mi. Few in a wash set 30 gopher-sized mouse traps. The ground was sandy, gravelly or rocky and was sparsely covered with low bushes of Artemisia, Senecio douglasii, Eriogonum fasciculatum, Lotus glabra and Sambucus glauca. In some places the ground was matted with Erodium and low grass. Examined the traps at 10 P.M. and found they had caught mammals of the following species: 1 Dipodomys agilis and 3 Peromys- cus maniculatus. Dec. 24 1/2 mi. N.E. Ontario, 1100 ft. Saw Bernardino Co., Calif. In the 30 mouse traps found only 1 Pero- myscus maniculatus. It appears that the small rodents here must feed early in the evening, here, as indicated by the larger catch between 6 P.M. and 10 P.M. than between 10 P.M. and 6 A.M.
