Palmer 1934 Microtus c. Californicus Feb 24. Dwight Way Hill, Berkeley, Alameda Co., California. 650 ft ♀ taken in runway in Puccinellia and Hordeum grass at base of Bacharus bush. Well developed system of runways around several bushes. Cut leaves of Soap-root (Chlorogalum) found in runway - Oatmeal and raisin bait. Mar 4 500 ft., North Side of Dwight Way Hill, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. ♀ 11- taken in well formed runways in Puccinellia grass and Chlorogalum (Soap-root). There were several well worn runways forming a system that did not extend beyond the limits of chlorogalum. Only a few furrows were seen. While setting traps, one was observed cutting leaves of Soap-root probably for food, possibly to use in the bottom of the nest Oat bait. Mar 8 1/4 mi. N.E. of Botanical Garden 800ft, Strawberry Canyon, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. ♀ 12. taken in oat baited trap in runway thru dried grass & thistles. Trap had not been set 10 minutes
