Palmer 1934 Aug 13 cont. Itinerary The Santa Ana River flows into Santa Ana Canon. The river here is quite broad and shallow and is rather slow running. The banks are lined with Cottonwoods, Willows, Cattails and grass. Set 50 gor. sized mouse traps in grass and cattails in marshy spots along the river. Also set 40 traps in dry sandy washes at the base of the hills. Aug 14 Caught 3 Reithrodontomys in the 50 traps along the river and 1 Dipos- donmys agilis in the 40 traps at The base of the hills. These were put up by C. Bailey, B. Palmer and A.R. Mahurin. 1000 ft, 14 mi ENE Botanical Garden, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. Sept 28. Went up Strawberry Canyon this evening with D.H. Johnson. Went on up past Botanical garden in the canyon shown on some maps as Snowberry Creek. Set traps on the N side of the canyon. The traps (40 gor. sized mouse traps) ran in a line up the hillside thru dry grass, Artemisia, bush lupine and Poison-oak, and back down in a small gully filled with Baccharus.
