Palmy 1934 Mar 9. General Account. 900 ft., North Fork of Strawberry Canyon, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. Set 12 mouse and 2 rat traps. Rat traps were set by woodrat nest under a willow in the bottom of the canyon. Oat bait. No results. Two mouse traps were set in a clump of blackberry. Both sprung and bit eaten. Two mouse traps with bacon bait were set in Microtus runs in grass and sedges. Took one ?Sorex ornatus californicus #13 Four traps were set in Microtus runways with oat bait. These runways were mostly in dead grass. Took one ?Microtus and one ?Peromyscus maniculatus gambeli. Both had crushed skulls so were not put up. Four traps were set on south facing dry hillside covered with old-man sage. These were set on open gravelly ground beneath the sage and with oat bait. Took one ?Peromathus c. californicus #14 J. Dale gave me one Reithrodontops m. longicaudus #15 from his traps in the same general area.
