Palmer/1934 Ochotona princeps. July 22 Smiths Creek, 7500 ft., Lander Co., Nev. Caught one in #0 steel trap set in a rock slide. Evidence of the conies presence was found in a "hay-pile" of cut pieces of Artemisia and Prickly Phlox about 4-8 inches long. These were packed in under the overhanging edges of the largest boulders in the rock slide which was about 5 ft across and 2 ft high. The trap was set under part of the overhanging edge which did not have "hay" packed in. Boulder "Hay-pile" July 28 Peterson Creek, 7800 ft. Shoshone Mts., Lander Co., Nev. Shot one out of 3 seen in a rock-slide where I watched from 5:00 to 8:00 A.M. These seen did not make much noise but some could be heard giving the characteristic call in nearly every rock- slide July 29 Peterson Creek, 7600 ft. Shoshone Mts., Lander Co., Nev. Shot one, the only one seen, in a rock- slide before sunrise.
