rocky slope. Saw tracks of our Dipodomyss
in the general area of land-
This A.M. The traps contained 3 Perognathus
yoviscillatus, and 2 Peromyscus maniculatus,
and 5 Peromyscus eremicus. Moved to a more
permanent camp further north as soon as traps
were collected.
New camp is 7 miles by road from Caliente.
The valley is about four hundred yards wide here.
Alfalfa and tall grass is quite plentiful,
the former being cultivated in many fields.
Along the creek Cottonwood trees are to be found
in fair numbers.
The fauna upon whose land we are camping
says, Squirrels, Woodchucks, Gophers, Skunks,
Foxes, and Ring-Tailed Cats are all present.
At noon today we saw a Rock Squirrel
(Citellus grammurus) climbing a rocky slope.
The stream abounds in small Carp.
Many young Spade-foot are to be found along
the banks of the stream at all hours of the
day.
Found a Rock Wren's nest up by the
spring. The nest contained at least three young
birds in juvenile plumage. The nest was
located on the ground beneath a pile of
