Peromyscus maniculatus was particularly abundant in the low-matted brush in the valleys and beneath the pines.
Eutamias quadrivittatus was quite abundant among the firs and pines near rocks or rocky canyon bottoms. Shot one specimen. Sylvisagus nuttalli was also plentiful on the edges of the brushy areas. Shot two this morning (no. 208-209)
One of the larger wood rat dens had a pile of feces three inches deep and approximately 18 feet square. The nests were located among rock crevices within a small cave.
Russell saw a pair of Mountain Sheep yesterday.
Birds seen on top of the mountain were as follows: Texas Screech Owl, Flicker, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Townsend Solitaire, Williamson Sapsucker, Short-tailed Mountain Chickadee, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Sparrow Hawk, Spurred Towhee, Gray-tailed Towhee.
Arrived down at our camp at Springer Springs about noon.
