June 1931
South west base of Grum Dally, 1200 ft.,
Lincoln Co., Nev.
May 31, 1931
Set out 50 traps last night, mostly along
the sides of canyons among the Pinyons for chipmunks today. Saw old Porcupine
and deer dropping. This A.M. (5.20)
there were three Peromyscus maniculatus
sonoriensis and one Pezagrathus parvus
in the traps. The former were caught
in canyon bottoms and around rocks,
The latter up on top of a small ridge
in fairly open country beneath a small
bush.
6.25 A.M.- Pair of Sparrow Hawks flew over
camp. One of the two, seemingly the male,
made small swoops as it
flew. Each time, on the descending
portion of the curve, the male uttered
a shrill "Kitee-Kitee". The other member
of the pair flew straight. Both were very
high in the air and soon disappeared
in the direction of the valley below.
