The canyon slope was rather open with some live oak, a few bayon bushes, some Symphorocarpus, Cereocarpos betuloides and Quercus dumosa. This area was still shaded at this hour. Several Digger Pines hereabouts. At 11:30 a.m. the day was warm so Boyers and I walked up the creek searching for chipmunks. I succeeded in shooting one, also another Brown Towhee. Boyers shot some Sitruwoses. Saw 5t Ground Squirrels. Bark of fallen Digger Pines indicated that California Acorn-storing wood- peckers habitually stored acorns in such places. Bond came in stating that he had not seen a rabbit all day during a walk that he took, but he succeeded in shooting a Brown and a Spotted Towhee.
