Dec. 23, 1932
signs of chipmunks seen in snow. Shot a spotted towhee that was perched in a juniper. Have not heard a single call note of this species. Noted Mexican Bluebirds, Plain Tetturas, Gambel Sparrows, California Jays, Bewick Wren this a.m. At 7:45 this morning it began to hail then sleet, fine snow and rain fell all the rest of the day. Day also very windy and cold. Juncos are extremely numerous here. Boyers shot two this p.m. and a Mexican Bluebird. He saw a jack-rabbit on the slope among the junipers. Did not place out any traps tonight since it may snow anytime and there is little use in our staying here to secure brush rabbits.

Left Bodfish at 9:30 a.m. after securing the promise of Henry Ross to send any brush rabbits that he might shoot to the Museum. Day partly clear with more snow on the mountains than when we came up and some on the road. Went to Bakersfield, noting a number of Horned Larks on flat country east of there. Had lunch & bought sup-plies in Tulare and went west at Joshua to Calirgo.
