1/2 mi. [illegible] Meriamonte, 3500ft., Fresno Co., Calif. Oct 1932 Dec. 20, 1932 professional trappers dereabouts. Spent the rest of the a.m. and p.m. skinning. The Fox Sparrow that I put up was shot by Boyers. Forgot to mention that yesterday a.m. we heard two California Thrashers 3 mi. w. of Meriamonte singing in Chaparral at 7:30 A.M. Dec. 21, 1932 Began raining before dawn this a.m. and by daybreak it was snowing. By the time we had packed camp I were ready to leave there was [illegible] of snow on the ground. Went down to the valley. Several California Ground Squirrels seen on way down, one with a Buckeye fruit in its mouth. Lewis Woodpeckers also seen between Devilap & Orange Cove. In the orchard in the valley 7 mockingbirds were noted as wedrove along in the a.m. Raining most of way to Bakersfield. Stocked up wetted provisions and left for Bodfish, Kern Co. Camped just before dark outside of entrance to Kern River Canyon. It was still raining but both Boyers and myself placed out a trap line. I set out 25 mouse traps along the sides of a small wash. A heavy rain & hail fell after dark so probably most of our traps are already springing.
