Californicus on the open hillside on the edge
of the brush. Our next trap line 4 mi. west
of camp in a canyon on the east side of
Squaw Valley contained only one Perognathus
californicus. A woodrat had been caught
by the front paw in one of the traps but
had eaten the leg muscles & bones clear
through above the paw and escaped. Saw
a flock of 100+ Band-tailed Pigeons flying
overhead. Shot a loren-tit, 1 Brown Towhee,
1 Plain Titmouse, 1 Junco and 1 Spotted
Towhee. The Titmouse was in a large
oak on the edge of a clearing. Another was in
seen in the same tree but remained as quiet
after I shot the first that I was unable to
secure it. After I walked away 100 yards it
began calling again. More Towhees of both
species could have been secured up on a
brush slope but I was afraid of scaring
Hobbets. Small patches of snow in shade here.
One brush rabbit was noted at 9:20 a.m.
as it ran thru the brush and across a
clearing out of sight. About 150 yards
further up the slope another brush
rabbit ran across the trail 15 yards a-
head of me & stopped in a small space
