and a number of species of brush. The brush however was not as dense as at Mebra - Monte. A great number of wood rat nests were to be seen along the sides of this old trail on the edge of the brush and at the bases of oaks. In some places they were as close as 30 yards apart. All appeared to be occupied. I placed out 50 mouse traps and 11 rat traps here. A large rat nest apparently oc- cupied was found beneath a granite ledge. It may possibly be that of Neotoma lepida. The other rat nests seem to be Neotoma fescifex. Not a brush rabbit was seen in this region by either myself or Boyers. A Western Gnatcatcher was seen along the trail.
This a.m. I also saw two Bewick Wrens up in the brush.
This evening the temperature is the same as last night - 29° F. This a.m. at 5:50 it was 25° F.

The traps placed 2 mi. west of here by road contained only one Peromyscus californicus which was taken beneath a dead Madrono & a Buckeye. Boyers caught a Perognathus
