1932
Fowler, Fresno Co., Calif.
Dec. 15, 1932
Left Berkeley at 9:30 a.m. in company with
J. M. Boyers for a two weeks collecting trip. The
purpose of the trip is to secure brush rabbits
from certain critical points in the foothills
surrounding the south end of the San Joaquin
Valley. Went to Reedley, Fresno Co. this p.m.
and talked with Mr. Bellard the game
warden for this area. He told me that brush
rabbits occur up in the mountain east of here
between Denlap and Pinherst and was of
the opinion that Miramonte was the most
centrally located place to stay. He told me
that he always saw more brush rabbits in
the spring than any other seasons of the year
and the least number in winter. Foxes, Coyotes
and other carnivores kept them rather scarce.
Stayed at Fowler tonight.
Dec. 16, 1932
Left Fowler this a.m. and went to Deer Cross-
ing Camps, 1/2 mile east of Miramonte. Road
led east from Fowler to Reedley & Orange Cove,
a number of Squirrels, Lewis Woodpeckers, and
one Sharp-shinned Hawk were seen in the
low foothill country. One ground squirrel
noted. After we reached an elevation of
about 1500 feet there was snow on the ground.
No Digger Pines along road to our Camps.
